$2 Million Awarded to Three Whistleblowers by the United Stated Securities and Exchange Commission

The United Stated Securities and Exchange Commission announced that it awarded $2 Million to three whistleblowers.

The whistleblower who originally prompted the Securities and Exchange Commission to open an investigation will receive approximately $1.8 million; the other two whistleblowers who provided additional information after the investigation had started will each receive approximately $65,000.

The Securities and Exchange Commission whistleblower program rewards high-quality, original information that results in a Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement action with sanctions exceeding $1 million.  Whistleblower awards can range from 10 percent to 30 percent of the money collected in a case.

As of now, Securities and Exchange Commission's whistleblower program has paid more than $57 million to 26 whistleblowers since the program began in 2011.

The Securities and Exchange Commission protects the privacy of whistleblowers and does not disclose information that might directly or indirectly reveal a whistleblower’s identity.
